Description:The GAL Program provides trained community child advocates who are paired with attorneys to be the voices of abused and neglected children in juvenile court. Program Supervisors support and assist the volunteers as they conduct an independant investigation of the facts that brought the children to the court's attention. The volunteers prepare a written court report that tells the judges what services the child needs and what the volunteer believes is the best placement for the young person. Guardians ad Litem are also required to tell the judge what the child himself wants.

Quality Standards:Volunteers must have good judgement, supply three written references, pass a criminal records check and be interviewed by the GAL Program's District Administrator.
