| Description: | The Center for Child & Family Health offers diagnostic, treatment, and preventive services for children at risk of experiencing trauma. CCFH also offers home visiting and support groups. We host a variety of major research projects to better understand trauma, violence, crime, and bereavement issues that relate to children. The Center was formed in 1996 as a collaborative effort between academia and the community. It has not only earned the respect of the local and regional community, but is a model that can be used on a national level to change the way we deal with child abuse.

| Quality Standards: | The Center for Child & Family Health is dedicated to restoring the normal development—and ensuring the future success—of children who are at risk for, or who experience maltreatment and trauma. Our mission is to enhance the lives of children and families affected by trauma and abuse. We fulfill this mission through a coordinated, integrated system of exemplary clinical service, professional education, outreach, and policy initiatives.
Our vision at CCFH is that all children in North Carolina will grow up in a healthy, nurturing environment free of trauma and abuse. We work to enhance family and supportive relationships that are critical to a child’s physical, social and mental health. We are committed to alleviating the effects of abuse, trauma and other disruptions of a child’s healthy development.
We do this by
• providing direct services to children and their families
• conducting and disseminating research
• advocating for effective public policies and practices, and
• assisting other communities in replicating our collaborative approach.
The Center currently serves more than 3300 children and families from 50 North Carolina counties. Medical evaluation, mental health evaluation and treatment, legal support, family support and parent education services are all under one roof, helping prevent children and families from “falling through the cracks.” The lynchpin of this service is community agency collaboration, creating potential that can only be dreamed of when professionals work in isolation. The Center works closely with county Departments of Social Services, Public Schools, Rape Crisis Centers, Departments of Mental Health, Departments of Public Health and Law Enforcement. And services are customized, which means they are based on what the child needs, not just on what the organization provides.
